The Protestant Church of the Redeemer is in the "Brandenburger Vorstadt" district and the intersecting streets of Nansenstrasse and Meistersingerstrasse.
The slender tower of the Erlöserkirche, with its 74 heights, is a landmark of the Brandenburg suburb and is already visible. The neo-Gothic building was built from 1896 to 1898 according to the plans of the architects Gotthilf Ludwig Möckel, Ferdinand Krüger and Arthur Kickton. Rudolf-Tschäpe-Platz, on which an old copper beech stands, is under monument protection from the building ensemble. The interior of the north church seats approx. 900 and, in addition to a view of the chancel, also has political acoustics.
In the last days of the war, the Church of the Redeemer suffered some, but will be maintained again by 1947. At the beginning of the years the church was completely renovated inside and also in the Schuke organ with 36 registers, which makes the church a separate venue for organ concerts. Will have to be changed after 1989 to change the rights to take over the building envelope in attack, 1998 could also be with the personal recovery of the historical interior design. He has already given the chancel a specific and subtle color scheme - an ambience that gives concerts a very special atmosphere.
Since five people have found a personal place due to the musical work and the Church of the Redeemer. Until the mid-1990s she was inseparably related to KMD Friedrich Meinel and his wife Annemarie Meinel. Since the end of 1997 the young Israeli conductor Ud Joffe has been the Potsdam Choir and the Music at the Church of the Redeemer.
Pastors at the Erlöserkirche are Martin Kwaschik and, since 1994, Konrad Elmer.
