The town of La Tirana, located in the heart of the Pampa del Tamarugal, is a small and quiet town where, every July 16, the day of the Virgen del Carmen is celebrated with a great festival that attracts thousands of visitors and faithful. Between the 12th and 18th the town undergoes a complete metamorphosis where believers dedicate music, dance and offerings to their patron saint the Virgin. Santiago-Pozo Almonte on Route 5 North via public transport or private vehicle. From Pozo Almonte follow the Panamericana to the south, at kilometer 9 take the detour towards the city of Pica, travel 10 more kilometers and you will arrive at Tirana. From Pozo Almonte to Tirana there is public transport.



The most striking thing about the town are the dances that take place on its holidays, brotherhoods mostly from Arica, Iquique, Tocopilla and Calama. The dance is accompanied by various instruments such as trumpets and whistles. Participants dress in brightly colored costumes. It is said, according to researchers, that these dances come from ancestral rhythms of Inca ceremonies with signs of other Andean cultures.
